YIVO Welcomes Two New Board Members

Sep 30, 2021

(New York, NY) – The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research is delighted to announce the addition of Warren Stern and Deborah Veach to its Board of Directors. These additions reflect the unprecedented growth YIVO has seen since the beginning of the pandemic.

A distinguished attorney, Warren Stern is a graduate of Columbia College and Harvard Law School. Warren launched his legal career as a law clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and then joined Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he worked until his retirement as a partner in 2009. Since his retirement, he has served as Counsel to the Firm and has taught in an adjunct capacity at several law schools, including Harvard and New York University, and has served on several not-for-profit boards.

A former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney and Deputy Bureau Chief under Robert M. Morgenthau and a former Deputy Mayor of Teaneck, New Jersey, Deborah Veach graduated from Barnard College and Rutgers Law School. Recently appointed by Governor Murphy as a member of the NJ Advisory Commission on the Status of Women, Deborah was involved for many years in elected and volunteer positions in Teaneck. Deborah, who immigrated to the United States with her Yiddish-speaking parents, has been a student of Yiddish from her year-abroad at Hebrew University through current classes led by YIVO instructor Dovid Braun.

“We are thrilled with the addition of Warren and Deborah to our Board. Both bring unique skills and passion that will help YIVO continue to grow and thrive into the future,” said Ruth Levine, Chairwoman of YIVO.
