Remembering Terezin: A Tribute to the Artists who Perished in the Holocaust

In commemoration of Kristallnacht (Nov 9-Nov 10 1938) Mannes Sounds Festival in partnership with the American Society for Jewish Music, the Leo Baeck Institute, the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, and the Center for Jewish History presents “Kristallnacht and Its Aftermath.”

Founded in 1999 by Pavlina Dokovska, chair of the Mannes Piano department, the Mannes Sounds Festival presents more than 20 concerts annually performed by young artists from Mannes, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music and the School of Drama as well as master classes and lectures by distinguished faculty members and renowned guest artists. It is one of the outstanding components of the Mannes performance program. The events are held at various prestigious concert venues and cultural institutions throughout New York City.

2. Gideon Klein: Piano Sonata No. 1

3. Pavel Haas: Selections from 7 Songs in Folk Style, op.18

4. Hans Krasa: Dance (Tanec) for String Trio

5. Lori Laitman: I Never Saw Another Butterfly (based on children’s poetry from Terezin) 

6. Poem Recitations: Peter Kien: “Under the Walls of Babylon” & Ilse Weber:” Letter to my Son”

7. Excerpt from the film The Last Flight of Petr Ginz with remarks by director Sandra Dickson 

8. Interview with Eva Ginz 

9. Introduction of Echoes from the Darkness: Messages from the Terezin Diaries of Petr and Eva Ginz
