Instructor: Anna Fishman Gonshor

In 1877 Sholem Aleichem wrote his first Yiddish children’s story, “dos meserl” (the penknife). It became a favorite for generations of Yiddish readers, young and old. This course, a reading course, will begin with reading this beloved text (revised for American Yiddish schools) and continue with other popular children’s stories, including the stories of Chelm.

This course will be conducted in Yiddish: we will read, answer questions, and discuss in Yiddish (as much as possible). This class is geared to students at the advanced-beginner / beginner-intermediate levels. This course will be capped at 15 participants.

Course Materials:
There is no textbook required for this course. The instructor will provide all course materials digitally to students throughout the class.
